Dr. Wesley Gass Formal

Dr. Wesley Gass

Dr. Wesley Gass grew up in Roswell, GA, with most of his family living in the Dawsonville area. From a young age, he had a passion for dentistry and for providing healthy, happy smiles to his local community. While in high school and college Dr. Gass worked as a dental assistant which helped him gain early insight into the field of dentistry as well as grow his passion and desire to pursue a career in dentistry. Following college, Dr. Gass attended and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. In pursuit of additional education and advanced training, Dr. Gass then moved to Houston, TX where he completed the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center. There he gained valuable experience in sedation, treating complex cosmetic and surgical cases, and working on complex interdisciplinary cases with other dental specialists. During this residency program, Dr. Gass was able to see the value and positive impact that orthodontics has on patients. This experience led him to pursue additional education to specialize in the field of orthodontics. He attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he completed a 3-year orthodontic specialty residency program while simultaneously receiving his Master’s degree in Dental Science.

While in San Antonio, Dr. Gass met his wife and fellow orthodontist, Dr. Kelsey Gass. As a proud husband to his wife and as a father to their daughter Bailey, Dr. Gass takes pride in treating each patient like he would like his own family. Dr. Gass’ extensive education and training have equipped him with the skills and knowledge to treat all patients (children to adults) in a comprehensive manner. Additionally, his training has provided him with the ability to collaborate with dentists and other dental specialists to provide the best care possible. He is passionate about educating patients on the benefits of a healthy and beautiful smile. Dr. Gass cares deeply about his patients and their families and makes providing them with the highest quality of care his number one priority.

He loves watching and playing sports and is particularly competitive when it comes to cycling and golf. He and his family are members of Lakewood Baptist Church and enjoy getting involved in local community service projects. Additionally, the overhead costs of running an orthodontic practice contribute to the overall expense.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?
The duration of orthodontic treatment varies based on individual needs, but typically lasts between 18 to 24 months. Factors like the severity of misalignment, patient compliance, and the type of treatment (braces, Invisalign) influence the timeline. Regular appointments and following orthodontist recommendations help achieve optimal results efficiently.
What age should children visit an orthodontist?

Are there less visible braces options?
Yes, Invisalign offers a less visible option for braces treatment. Invisalign aligners are clear and removable, making them a discreet choice for straightening teeth.
How does Invisalign compare to traditional braces?
Invisalign offers a more discreet option compared to traditional braces, as they are clear aligners that are virtually invisible. They are removable, making oral hygiene easier, and typically require fewer in-person visits for adjustments. However, traditional braces may be more effective for complex cases and are often more cost-effective.
What are the benefits of orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment offers benefits such as improved oral health, enhanced aesthetics, better bite alignment, and increased confidence. It can correct issues like overcrowding, misalignment, and jaw problems, leading to long-term dental wellness and a beautiful smile. Additionally, orthodontic care can prevent future dental complications and improve overall quality of life.

Here are some essential tips: Wear retainers as instructed by your orthodontist to prevent teeth from shifting. Practice good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. Attend follow-up appointments to monitor progress and ensure stability. Avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage your teeth or aligners. Continue any recommended exercises or habits to maintain oral health.
Are retainers necessary after braces?
Retainers are essential after braces to maintain the results achieved during orthodontic treatment. They help prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Retainers are typically worn full-time initially, then transitioned to nighttime wear. Follow your orthodontist's guidance for long-term retention.
How can I maintain oral hygiene with braces?
Maintaining oral hygiene with braces is crucial. Here are some tips: Brush after every meal with a soft-bristled brush. Use a floss threader or orthodontic floss to clean between teeth. Rinse with mouthwash to kill bacteria. Avoid hard, sticky foods that can damage braces. Attend regular dental cleanings and check-ups.
Do braces cause discomfort or pain?
Braces may cause discomfort or pain initially as the teeth and mouth adjust. This discomfort is usually mild and temporary, lasting a few days to a week after adjustments. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage any discomfort. Regular adjustments may cause temporary soreness but are crucial for effective treatment.
Can dental issues be corrected without surgery?
Yes, dental issues like misalignment, overcrowding, and bite problems can often be corrected without surgery using orthodontic treatments such as braces, Invisalign, and other appliances. These non-surgical options can effectively align teeth and jaws, improving oral health and aesthetics. Consulting with an orthodontist can determine the best treatment plan for each individual case.
